AUTHOR'S STATEMENT: This is a listing of musicians, songwriters & singers of West Texas who made some extraordinary contribution or achievement in the fields of singing, song writing, recordings and/or musical performance. A lot of the individuals listed herein received little credit for their achievements during their lives while some are quite famous today! The time period of the Index includes persons that were active between 1940 and 1970 but sometimes the Index extends beyond these dates. The geographical area generally includes the Panhandle, South Plains & part of the Permian Basin area of Texas. This area includes the Amarillo-Lubbock area, the Odessa-Midland area, and the Big Springs-San Angelo area of West Texas. Most people included in this Index were either born in this area or resided here for a period of time. The main fields of commercial music are included with an emphasis on Western Swing, Country & Rock 'n Roll!
